Our recording studio, The Sound Cafe has been at the forefront of the Scottish recording sector for the last 20 years, through which we have developed strong connections with some excellent artists. Check out some of these associates - you'll find their material is available on our shop page.

Sound Cafe Records are pleased to announce that the work of a fine selection of artists, including that of Lemon Jelly’s Fred Deakin and ex Beta Band/Aliens Drummer, Robin Jones, is now available here for your listening pleasure!

FLASHMAN - To the Victor - the Spoils!

Fred Deakin of Airside and Lemon Jelly fame has collaborated with Robin Jones (Beta Band / The Aliens) and recorded an album under the moniker Flashman. ...Musically, Flashman's sound has been described as "jazz-folk-techno", and the mostly instrumental tracks on the album were constructed from live performances recorded right here at the Sound Café studios, in the heart of the Scottish countryside.

With Jones on drumming duty, and Deakin on electronics and various other instruments, the Flashman cause was aided by gallant guest performances from jazz piano legend Brian Kellock (courtesy of Thick Skinned Productions Ltd), clarinetist Wally Fawkes (The Humphey Lyttleton Band), and trumpet extremist Andy Diagram (James / Pale Fountains / Shack / Spaceheads).

ROMAN NOSEBAND - Reperchage

Licensed from the Beenie's Hoose label in 2011 the original Roman
Noseband álbum, featuring the talents of ex Beta Band/Aliens drummer Robin
Jones, has now passed into the hands of SCR to share with the world.
Ably assisted By Dan Demon, Trish von Kriech and Baron Royster this album journeys to a land from which there is no return.

THE STANDARD ERROR

The self titled debut album from Edinburgh's newest alt/pop rock collective released back in July of 2011. Likened to Radiohead and Dinosaur Jr (to name but a few!) they combine meaty pop hooks with a rather generous dollop of dissonance and angst to go. Currently planning a Scottish tour for 2012, these guys are a breath of fresh air.

BRIAN KELLOCK FEATURING JULIAN ARGUELLES

Nine Mile Burn Sessions
Brian Kellock (piano), Julian Argüelles (saxes)

"Sublime, top-of-the-range, conversational jazz" - The Guardian

Scottish virtuoso Brian Kellock, a master of almost every jazz piano style, is diverting enough on his own. But this collection unites him on five tracks with saxophonist Julian Argüelles - the former Loose Tubes innovator, heard here on a rare tilt at standard songs, with Jobim and Lee Konitz joining Ellington and Irving Berlin among the composers.
